These two pokemon may be the same species, but are different genders.

You mean they have different an evolutions for male and a different one for a female, or that they are the same pokedex entries and one of them is always male and the other always female?

The best way I can explain this is by giving an example:
Nidorino and Nidorina. Different genders of the same species.
