But before you drop the Staff of Everscamp...
You can use it to raise your war magic casting statistic to 100. Equip it, and use the smallest fire spell you have on the scamps. They will not attack you and you can kill them over and over...forever, raising your magic very very quickly. One of the best training tools in the game.

You can raise any offensive skill by attacking the scamps. Blade, spells, etc.
IRRC, sneak as well.

You can do the same on Peryite's Shrine, but be aarrested before you save cause your game may crash of the unreported assaults.

Idk what you guys are saying, everytime i attack scamps they hit me back... But i'm not getting rid of it, i like using beast speak on them. I will eventually...
