I know the strategy, Protect, Haste, Albehd potions too keep alive and doom will take 99 turns to finish it.
If beating it where faster I might try it (once I'm done with Disgaea and a few other games), however I'll probably get fairly annoyed getting a 1/14 chance result over that period of time, after a few tries.

It actually takes 255 turns for Doom to kill it, not 99. And you use Auto-Potion and (Hi-)Potions to stay alive. Al-bhed potions only rarely if you run out of Potions and Hi-Potions. Each battle takes about 80-90 minutes, so yeah, it's not exactly short.
