I think its some preparation for Wrestlemania. Its not much of a big feud, but it'll sure end before wrestlemania. I haven't watched smackdown recently so i don't know if Batista won the US title or if MVP retained.

they should keep him in the main event, because he has been the hottest superstar so far this year... but it looks like he wont get his hands on a title for at least a year now
