when i play oblivion for more than 10 or so minuets the sound gets staticy and metalicy sounding or slows down so much i cant understand anything, ive patched the game so i was wondering if there was anything i could do, short of buying new hardware?

i had to turn down most of the graphics and sound settings so my computer will run it somewhat smoothly.

Oblivion is a high-end game, the only way i could play it was to upgrade my entire computer it cost me well over €1500, and that's whole-sale, cause i set up a computer business. now i've heard about a new motherboard that can take 4 graphics cards in SLi, i have AMD quad-core and this is the only way i can enjoy Oblivion, but most people can't afford what i do, but if you can my advice is to update your computer. i don't think, in most cases, it's the graphics card, i think what it is, is the processor, get yourself the intel duel core. i don't think i can help other than tell you what you could try.
    turn down the
    - graphics accceleration.
    - sound acceleration.

in both cases the game could run slower, break up or crash.
i stress the word "could," not "will", but could.

heh, another serious gamer? like me?
    when i buy a game i buy a computer to suit(if needed).
so when i go into a game shop i buy a stack of games that i know will run cause if they don't i will upgrade my computer. but now i got my bad a$$ computer, i figure it will be future proof for.... ah.... well at least three months
but my advice still stands, for anyone who has serious trouble playing Oblivion, buy a new computer.(IF you have enough money).
