Um. Which stage are you at? If you are at the first stage (where his hands come out of the ground), then here is what you do.
As soon as his hand comes out of the ground, pause the game, look at the color orb on his hand, then change your sword's element to match the color. Once you have done that, hit his hand with your newly changed sword. Repeat the process everytime he shoots his hand out of the ground.
