do R1 and L1 serve any purpose in the mist abilities, meaning do they do anything for them as far as power level is concerned, also is the mist ability considered as a physical or magick attack

there is nothing that determines power level except mist charges. If you have 3 full charges then it is random as to whether you will get a level one two or three attack. But if you only have one full charge, you can only do a level one attack. Quickening are always physical attacks and so are the concurrences that follow, no matter what the name may make them seem like.

the quickenings are already extremely powerful if you can pull off a good chain. if you hit r2 you can recycle through the options in the hopes of getting another mist charge to keep the chain going which helps get a concurrence. plus quickenings affect all enemies execpt those immune to physical damage.

the best thing you can do is to try and get 4 of every level quickening. That will trigger the most powerful attack in the game, black hole. I've only managed it once. Otherwise asking for more power with the quickenings once you know how to do them correctly is just getting greedy.
