...And I need your help. I've never played pokemon Ruby before, and I'm at the point where I need to choose one pokemon to fight off the poochyena in the beginning, or in other words, I'm choosing my starter. Now, I've been told that beginning the game with Mudkip will be too easy, and I'm looking for a challenge. On top of that, I don't really like mudkip's appearance, so I'm not going to choose mudkip as my starter; however, I'm more drawn to get either Treecko or Torchic, but after reviewing their evolutionary statistics later on in the game, I've come to this conclusion:

Blaziken, Torchic's final evolutionary state after Combustiken, has a moderate speed, and weak defenses, but an extremely good attack and special attack. Blaziken's type offers an advantage on bug, grass, steel, normal, dark types(offensively). Blaziken has several good moves to compliment it's attack power, but it's trademark move, blaze kick, and it's final learned move, sky upper Punch, seem to be a bit on the "less-accurate" side. In all, Blaziken learns really cool attacks, but it's the accuracy and speed I'm worried about with this dude.

Sceptile, Treecko's final evolutionary form, is extremely fast for a grass type, even faster than blaziken, has a really good special attack score, a moderate attack and moderate special defense, with a lacking defense. Sceptile learns one decent offenseive move on it's own, Leaf blade, which I like the idea of, but the rest of it's moves, like screech, absorb, and agility, are somewhat boring and less intriguing to me as an observer. Also, Sceptile alone as a Grass type has less advantages over all other pokemon, excluding Water, Ground and Rock(offensively). In all, Sceptile has excellent speed and special attack, but I'm worried about the moves it learns, other than it's trademark Leaf Blade.

Do you see my problem? That's why I'm asking all the true pokemon experts(or pokemaniacs) to shine their wisdom on me, in helping me choose the best pokemon out of these two creatures and at the same time simultaneously answering the question of how to solve each of these pokemon's problems in the long run, as stated in the previous 2 paragraphs.

*Remember, I've never played Ruby in my life. The only reason why I know so much information is because I've done extensive research on both of these two pokemon for about a week now, no joke folks.

I'd appreciate any help I can get from you all! Much Oblidged!

Hey, thanks Cortezred! I'll definately take your input into deep consideration. So you're saying that the 3rd elite four member will easily kill Sceptile? Well, That's just one point for Blaziken isnt it, hahaha! If you don't mind me asking you, what moves does your Blaziken know right now? I'd like to hear back from you cortezred! Thanks!

If anyone else has a similar or differing opinion, or any solutions to my problems as stated in my first post, please, don't be shy, I'd like some help. Thanks for reading!

I know you said you don't like mudkip but I'd reconsoder.

Mudkip, unlike any other water pokemon, learn good moves to go aginst lightning like mud sport and muddy water. It's stats are good for hp, defense, s attack and s defense. It is great in attack but a little lacking in speed. I'd really recomend him if your just starting. If you've played ruby or any other pokemon games alot I'd recomend Blazikin.

So the first challenger in the Elite Four is a Rock Trainer you say? Well, it makes sense enough to choose water for that reason. By the way, do you own a Mudkip, or a Swampert by chance?

And thanks for your input chuy_jr. I honestly appreciate your opinion dude.
