You don't need that. Just use ultra ball. I use that to catch Ho-oh. Until not i still keep my master ball.

Well i think he will ask you to catch lugia in each game so dat it'll be easier to fight red.

ok heres a tip for beating red:
-for pikachu use a rock type like graveller
-for venesaur use fire type like ho-oh or rapidash
-for blastoise use electric type like raiku or electabuzz
-then for umbreon i dont really know what to use... i just
beat it up with any pokemon...
-for snorlax use a pokemon that knows physical attacks and
not special attacks. use eartquake or something but after he uses amnesia attacks like fire blast wont do much damage
-and last for charizard use a water type like feraligator or gyrados
these pokemon should be around 60+ or you can defeat red with just one lvl 90/100 pokemon

i beat him with a luigi and ho-oh with level 80 or 90 it was pretty easy

I agree with you.I wiil add something else. Snorlax is easy to be beaten with a fighting pokemon (Hitmonlee,Machap etc). Also there isn't Umbreon but Espeon. To beat Espeon you will need a Dark type pokemon like Tyrranitar. Hope i helped!!!
