Ok... My horse has gone walk abouts somewhere after I was attacked by a couple of trolls...
I'm speaking about the horse you receive in the early stages (Wayvern Priory). Have i actually lost my horse or has it gone and stabled itself somewhere ... beleive me i have looked for the damn horse... and i've been stealing horses ever since.
I know you get a much better stead when you complete the dark brotherhood quests... but if i loose that horse... does that one stable itself too... any ideas would be helpful...

Horses are like NPC's they have their own missions - if you fast trabvel or dismount and the horse is NOT in a stable, it can do one of three things: Wander around close by looking stupid, Get attacked (and potentially killed) return Home by itself. If horse get attacked it will take damage - heal it using heal other spells. If horse dies - it will not come back apart from spawing. Best Answer is fast travel to a city location using the Gate as the desination, if horse alive it will pop in stable - if dead - you will pop :-). You could always get another horse (Unicorn) at the Glade. Free for a fight and much more fun than spawning.

Prior Maborel's horse actually goes home, in Weynon Priory, and you get a message telling you this... And yes, when you lose your horse, it's better to fast-travel somewhere, and it ussualy is near you... sometimes, I even travel long distances on the horse, and after I walk on foor a couple of meters to go in a cave, and look back, horse is going away with no reason... you know what to do? Mount it, and then dismount... it should stay still, then you can just go hunting!
Words are meaningless, and forgettable
