when you go into the chamber for the trial of skill,use R1+O,but only in the quicksilver style.this only applies to dante.it will slow the spikes down.

Well duh! but you don't get the quicksilver style until you battle geryon in mission twelve. You overcome the trial of skill in mission 6.
