little stuck! do you really need to get the light gem from sgt. bird to be able to carry on through level 1

no u dnt u just hav to go into this special level on the other side of the ball gaget if u hav 8 gems u can activate the ball gadget if u havnt u dnt hav to complete sgt birds flight to get a light gem there is other lightgems around try in crocvile swamp and go on the digging challenge with blink the mole and do a favour for fredneck the frog if u hav oready done tht find the elder who gives u pole spin thn just keep lukin for light gems and wen u hav 8 go and activate ball gadget in dragon village. Good luck on getting through the level

the second appearance of the ball gadget in cloudy domain, do you need 2 do this does it give you a light gem? its just im one short of activating the ball gadget and i dont know what 2 do
