They aren't bogus they work fine. at the pause menu you need to input the codes using the d-pad realitively fast at the very begining of the first single player level that you play. if you do it right you should hear a sound. If you mess up just exit the menu bring it back up and try again. They only work in single player. You never need to reinput the codes unless you exit the single player and go back to the main menu of the game. if you do the code will turn off.
Speed doesn't have anything to do with the codes. The codes are in the cheats section here.

These cheats work. Ive tried them before.

to slow or somthin'

it works, i know. how many people have accused me of not knowing? I am Z_D, if there is somethign about this game that I do not know, it is unknowable.
