i dont know what % i am but im at the part where u gotta turn the statue of his dad around and break the door using the 2 switches, i dont know if im missing something obvious but i need some help

I'm at 81%. I'm in the area where you walk up the steos and the floor starts to spin and move upwards. I have to help keep the girl alive as well as myself. I would deffeat numerouse sand creatures, but they are like never ending. how do I defeat them all before she gets killed or myself. I've tried about 50 times and I'm getting extremely fed up with not being able to defeat this area. PLEASE HELP ME !!!!!
