Those who might be expecting this game to be open world will be disappointed.

Last year, there was a suggestion that Mass Effect: Andromeda might be an open-world game. In fact, it is not, producer Michael Gamble said in a new interview with Official Xbox Magazine. That being said, it's not completely linear, either.

"I definitely wouldn't call Andromeda an open-world game," Gamble said, as relayed by GamesRadar. "We like to use the term 'exploration-based game.' You still have the concept of tight story deliverance and all the great things you come to expect with Mass Effect."

From the sound of it, Andromeda will follow in the footsteps of the past Mass Effect games as it relates to structure.

"The layer on top of that is a layer of exploration," Gamble said. "Sometimes that happens in open spaces, but not always. You can cruise around some of these planets in the Nomad, but it's not the traditional sandbox-type game."

The Nomad is the vehicle you'll drive in Andromeda, replacing the Mako from the original trilogy.

Yep the trilogy was never an open world. But people were expecting this new game not from the trilogy to be open world.

The original had open world elements but wasn't traditional open world either, you couldn't access everything in the MACO or on foot. from the looks of it though they have brought back many elements from the original, including a complicated leveling system which a lot of people missed when they dumbed down everything in 2.

I know what the old ones were. They whre not open world per say. The Devs have even stated this. It is large areas only and the leveling system is not complicated its actually straight forward.

Well with the latest trailers out it does look like open world to me..
"It is a moment of shock and horror filled with laughter when you figure out that your parents greatest wish, the one that would bring them the greatest joy is that your kids grow up just like you. And this comes at the moment, when sounding like your parents, you correct your own kids.

Seems it follows the DA:I formula. A huge map broken into different planets. So in a sense it's an open world world game, but it's just different, and it was what I expected.

Micheal Gamble one of the Devs did state it is not open world and from what they have been saying it is more towards the DAI style to give the feel of open world. But not.
