    taken from guru3d:

Microsoft will be implementing a specific game-mode into Windows 10 to offer better performance. The game-mode is planned for a public release with the creators update that will be issued later this year.

If you are part of the Windows Insider program, you'll notice that an early beta of this mode already has been implemented.

Microsoft has not yet explained as to how the mode specifically works but likely non-essential apps and software will get lower processor priority or could even be disabled to prioritize the game you are playing. This frees up CPU cycles and memory. The new game mode will not be limited to the Windows Store titles, games that for example run through Steam will also work with the new mode.

    I hope it's optional.

I don't need Windows disabling things it doesn't see as necessary. Anytime they do something gaming related it turns into a mess....I can see it disabling fan profiles, gaming keyboards and mice, and who knows what else.

This will all be optional. The integration of the Game Mode will have Beam (Newly acquired streaming service that imo is amazing) without the use of OBS to stream games directly from the OS. So far everything looks great for gamers and will not make a difference for non gamers if you do not opt in for the changes

I'm not sure how this could be seen as anything other than a gimmick. Realistically, if you're running hardware made after 2008 and using Win10 as you would Win7/Vista then it's going to close programs that aren't really using any resources anyway.

On the high side it may free up a few hundred megabytes of ram and a tenth of a percent of CPU time, but if you're having trouble running a game then those "extra resources" aren't going to make a difference. It isn't like we're talking about rendering or stress testing programs, after all.

Game Booster does the same thing
ASC's Turbo Boost does the same thing

Its nothing special, and probably adds some layer of control

And like those, this will be of little to no benefit except to those on Laptops or some what lacking Desktops.

It's an interesting concept, but only time will tell if it actually goes as planned. If it doesn't allow users to fine tune it's settings, then it will probably die out as a useless feature fairly quickly.
