Diablo 3 Message Board  

When I start playing, the F1 key responds "Trainer Activated" but the Num keys act as if commands are being given by the character being played. I have turned off chatting, I am playing in single player campaign mode, and I cannot play if I am disconnected from the Battle-Net server.
Is there a step I missed?

That's why this game was retired long ago and is no longer supported. Blizzard started banning players from the entire game when only cheating in the single player campaign mode. So you can send them your thanks.
