I just downloaded updated trainers for both Deus Ex MD and XCOM 2. Neither one will launch at all. I am running both as an admin. I have told my antivirus (Norton Security) to completely ignore both my trainers folder and C:/Windows/Temp. I'm not even getting the usual "are you sure you want to run this thing?" prompt from Windows that I usually get the first time I launch a new trainer. No sign of either trainer appears in the Task Manager, even for a split second. They appear to be completely inert, for lack of a better term, even when I completely shut off my antivirus.

    What is going on?

Update: I should mention that I'm running Win10 Pro x64

First of all, our records show that you only "just" downloaded the trainer for XCOM2. The DX trainer was 2 days ago. Second, I "just" downloaded the same exact Xcom 2 trainer that you downloaded, your personalized one, and it ran just fine on my Windows 10 X64 Pro machine. See screenshot:

So, what's going on is something on your machine is blocking them, probably Norton or Windows Defender if I had to guess even though you have excluded them from scanning. Otherwise you don't have proper permissions or are not right clicking run as admin on trainer, or maybe you just need to reboot. But what I can tell you is that there is nothing wrong with the trainer(s) themselves.

Thanks, PWizard. I'll figure it out. I wonder if Norton changed something and didn't tell me. Wouldn't be the first time. >_<

Update: I went through the whole support rigamarole with Norton, and determined that Norton wasn't doing anything to the newly-downloaded versions of the trainers. The one useful thing the Norton tech had to offer was that the file might be corrupted.

In view of your successful test, PWizard, I downloaded the XCOM 2 trainer to my laptop, where it ran as normal. When I transferred *that* copy of the trainer to my main gaming rig (where all of the trouble is) it ran as normal.

The obvious conclusion is that there is something wrong with the download process specifically on my gaming rig. Do you have any thoughts about what that might be? I have a viable solution via my laptop, but it's a pain. Do you think my copy of WinRAR might have gone screwy?

If you want to confirm that, try using 7-zip instead.

If you have any kind of browser addons or extensions, especially any security related, even by Norton, then disable them as they can cause the downloads to be corrupted.
