Breaking down Barriers
What do I need to break down the piles of stones barriers? Without that I can't get to virtually all the remaining upgrades.

I had the same problem, I ended up restarting the game from the beginning and following the objectives. You need to complete each objective to earn the upgrades you need to continue your quest. I do not remember which map I was in to earn the "Torpedo Upgrade" but if you follow the objectives you will come across the upgrade. You need the torpedo's to break thru the stone barriers.

I am currently working on getting the "Sonar Upgrade". There are some fairly tough puzzles to solve.
