Just happened to try the Super Units (Numpad 9 After you activate using F5) on my garrisoned units. It turns out you can use them!! Best part about it is that it doesn't seem to use up any extra Gold or food!! I have the Huns constantly bypassing my settlements because of the high garrisoned numbers. Also have noticed if you upgrade any work shop to improved weapons/armor/arrows BEFORE you upgrade your city a level the new garrisoned troops get the same upgrade as your field troops.
