Yes Unicorn Nexus has a mod to build outside the green areas . But a word of warning some of the mods available now are made with modders created tools as the G.E.C.K for fallout 4 is not available yet. So they can corrupt your game or game save. So I sudjest you read all info on the page before using it. A good source of mods and the problems with them right now can be found on you tubers channel that goes by the handle Gopher.

If you are getting tired of Kidnappings and Raiders Bases threatening your settlements. Stop talking to Preston after completing that type of mission. It won't stop the random defend settlement mission that are easy to miss the warning for but do show up in misc quest, but you won't get more mission to expand to new settlements either.

Of course if you are walking around with Preston this won't help you.

Over nexus forums, the modding community is encouraging modders to use FO4EDIT, apparently Bethesda is aware of the problem and have been recommending modders use FO4EDIT.

They been advising people to use the nexus mod installer and be sure that the mod they using have been created with FO4EDIT.

Bat files should safe to use, up to a certain extent. There are lot of stuff that Bethesda has hardcoded in the game, apparently they will be unlocked during a DLC event and when the GECK is released sometime next year.

So, a guy posted a video up on youtube showing how he patched up the broken walls in The Castle, I never even thought to try it before then but I followed his advice and now my castles walls are completely fixed. Link

If you get a tad tired of building/planting so many pumps, mutfruit and generators, try my CHEAT. It sets whatever item you've selected in the console to provide 50 more power, water and food. I've only tested it on generators (all of them), water pumps (all of them) and food plants.
It's easiest to do this while in workshop mode, as the item in front of you should be highlighted, but it isn't necessary. Get reasonably close to the item (so it's easier to select it), enter the console, left-click on the item you want to modify (the item code will pop up at the top of the console window, it usually has PP or similar after the code if you have selected the right item) and run the bat whatever command. Whatever being whatever you choose to name the text file you create in the Fallout 4 directory with the following contents:
    setav 332 50
    setav 331 50
    setav 32e 50
You can, of course, change the 50 for another number, but don't forget that happiness depends on having Defence equal more than the sum of Food and Water (if my guess is correct). If I find the value for Defence (aka Safety, I think), then I'll advise.

I found a post about this also thing is that a settler can only harvest a max of 6 food from a plant so I set mutfruit 5 which will add to the plants 1 giving total of 6 per plant, all other plants I set at 5.5. Just a thought. Defence can also be set by using the 333 code. But I have not tried that one. 8)

There is another trick for getting walls and such closer together. Open console while in building mode and hit tcl to go into no clip than you can place items as close as you want and clean up your build. Note there wont be any snap to side with items when you do this. So it's a bit more tedious. 8)
