the box itself says single player.
the problem is if the game is using a server for important stuff.. i.e. your health, credits, or whatever. If you have to be online to play it, then it could be a problem
best,

The game CAN be played offline, but what you lose is things like the chance to trade with other players and see what other people have built in the game and such, that being said your chance of encountering another player while online is something like 1 in 100,000.
There will be trainers and tables for this games single player, you can guarantee that. If however that carries over to the multiplayer when you go online then that's on the individual, I seriously don't think it will be an issue in this game though, I mean I don't even think there are leaderboards, just the option to upload your discoveries and trade.
This is not EVE online or The Division It's something very very different, and predominantly single player with an offline mode. It has trading dogfighting and discovery sharing elements with real people when you go online, but that will obviously be very rare if there is only a 1 in 100,000 chance of running into another online player.
tl;dr It has Offline single player, crisis over. 😀
You can not trade with other players you can see them and kill them but thats all. Its not a proper MP or MMO or Co Op. Its set in a MP world. But that is all. They may evolve the MP if sales show the interest.

Well...the game is going gold in the next couple of days (9th of August for PS4, 10th of August for PC's in the US and 12th of August the rest of the world)! There is enough data about the SP (or the minimal MP aspect of the game). It is predominantly a SP game. The MP part is sharing and consolidating discoveries with the Atlas system (hence the online servers). The changes for interaction with other players are phenomenal small. Besides, this is a game where a trainer will not spoil the fun. If there are really 18 quintillion worlds to discover (just google it) players can really focus on the exploration aspect of the game instead of grinding! 😀
Game actually went gold back on the 6th of July Link
