    FINAL UPDATE

Played through the Steam GOTY version to completion. This play through took about 45 hours and included all of the DLC, but no mods were installed. The game did not crash at all.

excuse me for necroing this one but will it run on win 10 as well? i am feeling a urge to re-re-re-install fallout 3 and i dont want to format and install win7 over one game.
Since there are people who give me crap for my grammar and is to lazy to check my profile I will say it here as well. I am dyslexic so give me a break as I *TRY* to spell correctly.

@Sutek No worries. One of my hobbies is finding out how to run older games on newer systems. On my install of Windows 10, I have found that these fixes work well with the Steam version of the game. I focused my short game time on areas that I knew would cause crashes. Spoiler:
The dialogue with the professor after dealing with the ant queen in Greyditch, start of the final assault in Point Anchorage, and the transition from the end of the main game into the Broken Steel expansion
During my play time, the game was stable, had a higher frame rate than on Windows 8.1, and I had minimal problems. I do not know how the retail disc will fare however.

    No, no no.. just NO.

If Steam is selling a game, it needs to WORK.

Make sure you report it as being BROKEN so Bethesda fixes it.

You can do this by clicking the flag at the bottom right next to "embed" and "share" on the game's storefront. Regardless as to whether you get the game to work or not, you need to help others avoid the hassle of buying a game that doesn't work.
