According to the Steam community announcement, Valve now allows developers to "implement their own systems that detect and permanently ban any disruptive players, such as those using cheats."

The game developer will notify Valve when such a player has been detected in their game, and Valve will apply the game ban to that account.

However, is there potential for specific developers to get too eager with the banhammer? What if a player is banned for something that isn't technically cheating - such as leaving a poor game review?

    what are your opinion CH?

My opinion is from now on I need to use new accounts for most multiplayer games.

Every major developer already does this kind of thing anyway. Valve letting them use their own systems isn't that much of a surprise.

Thank you! I've been trying to make this point in other forums and all the other users are paranoid that the devs are going to start doling out targeted bans for bashing them in forums, making complaints, etc.

Who the has time to monitor that garbage? If it is like one or two devs that created a game and there is a user base of like 200 then maybe. Even then, that sort of behavior would only make the other 199 users all butt-hurt and leave too.

IMO, this is just a move by Steam to ship the burden of handling ban complaints from their support to the devs. As I have said elsewhere; your greatest concern should be increased game costs as these companies begin to handle a mass of support issues they have never had to deal with. I mean, I have to image that there are bans given out where people contest and probably go to great lengths to do so.

That is the smartest thing I have ever heard anyone say about anything.

Why would devs exploit this mechanic?

My main fear is if they start banning in single games for cheating.

This one is easy, Don't use CH cheats online. They aren't made for that. All the developers HERE have stated their trainers are NOT for Online play repeatedly. If you want to cheat on your own game that is fine. You aren't affecting anyone but yourself. If you are using the cheats online you are not only affecting the play experience of those around you but are breaking the rules of the place where you got the trainer. You deserve to be banned.

As is usual, any Dev found to be abusing such an ability will likely find themselves short of customers after a while.

Maybe not a massive drop, but enough to make it noticeable - especially in the revenue department.
