The only issue I can see if what I heard was true is this:

I heard that Steam nor the game developer will provide oversight over the mod store. That basically means that QA standards are non-existent so you can expect junk being thrown up in hopes of a quick buck.

Correct. Valve expects players to police the mods.

My opinion about paid mods? No thanks. Already paying 60 euro for a game, and 60 more for official mods AKA DLC.

I'm not saying someone shouldn't be rewarded for their work, just that I don't see a whole lot of people paying for unofficial content that might break the game, that someone will abandon after 2-3 patches and will never bother coming back and fixing it.

Kudos to modders who won't follow this and will keep their mods free.

Not only that but they expect original mod owners to submit a DMCA if someone is stealing their work. So if the original mod maker is MIA or something, anyone could take their work and monetize it on Steam.

Then there's the few people on Nexus who are already taking down their free mod downloads so they can put a price tag on it through the Steam Workshop.

Don't see many folks buying with no Q.A.With a good description and some sort of guarantee that the mod works in different areas of the game also latest version of said game.I would be willing to pay a fee for the work done. Not liking the idea of donation. Rather pay a fee in recognition of the work done.

Incase you didn't hear steam now has the option to buy mods for your hard earned real life monies. To me that is straight up disgusting. Yes I know modders do hard work etc but there is a reason it's for years been considered a hobby etc. So the idea to start charging for it is sick. I now refuse to buy any game that supports this. I will also be shopping on steam a lot less and a lot more on GOG.

Anyone else disgusted or other wise bothered by this?

Edit Note: I should mention for those who don't understand English writing as well. I voice this as my opinion when I said it's disgusting etc. I do not intend it as fact or otherwise. I make no claim to decide for you which is why I made this post to hear others thoughts and let them know about it.

I agree, this is called greed and dictatorship/despotism in my opinion.

They started a while ago by removing options useful for most gamers while tampering with the forums, sure, they added new toys...to hide their new rules

Donations ok, but paying money for a mod makes it more of a payed dlc. The Modder gets only 25% of the Money, rest goes to Valve and Publisher. Furthermore you see on Websites likes Nexus, Mods that were once free are removed and now with a pricetag on steam.

And who says i will get support from the Modder if his mod interferes with other mods? Yes i have 24h money back but what if the mod works at first and then on a specific level the mod gets bugged.

There are NO regulations on this, more like, here upload you mod and the rest is up to you. There will be a lot of Scam and a lot of mods who arent originaly from the true creator.

I for myself will never pay for a mod, donations are ok.

People are thinking that they can charge for any amount for their mods, that isn't true.

Also 25% received for a mod? I don't think so. Someone is being a bit pedantic there about the percentage amount. I am sure it is a bit more than that.
