I second Unity. I'm currently doing my undergraduate senior project in Game Design, and our team is designing a video game using Unity. It's a solid tool to use for game programming. I've had no experience with it, but the provided tutorials are very helpful, and I know enough C# to be able to use it effectively.

the biggest part of game creation is coming up with the game itself. many people can code. it's the rare few who can come up with a good game concept, story, idea and then present it in a good way.

    good luck and best wishes!

it seems the other way around for me
I have some really good ideas (or so I am told) but for the life of me I cannot remember how to program

I remember posting a link maybe last yearish?

It was a cheap Unity course work, including some other stuff for very cheap from Udemy.

Since then it has gone back up to its normal pricing, but keep an eye on Udemy, they sometimes have sales in course work, and there is plenty of Unity courses on offer, even some free ones.

    EDIT:

Infact here you go some courses for $10/£8 (would be cheaper to use an American VPN etc to get it for $10 :P)
