Right am in The Storm Coast at the Driftwood Margin and there is a cave with a door in it. But it does not give me any option to do anything with the door. Am I missing something?

You get access after doing more of the main story missions. Not sure how many, but basically you can't access all of Storm Coast when you first go there.

I feel like it's to do with a war table mission later on but I'm not certain. I do know there is a chunk of the region behind that door though. If you take a look at one of the online maps you'll see.

Yes it is a part of the story mission line later on, once you have dealt with the Templar side of things.
Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA
