Run Steam in admin mode, Run all trainers in admin mode, Uninstall Norton and choose another AV.

As Neo has pointed out that W8 and up only use IE 10 or up. Also that the trainers use IE Files. IE is needed to be on your system!

Also note that older games will most likely use trainers that need IE9 on the system which means having Win7.

There really is not much else can be said.

    Hi Toki,

I'm using Win7 and the latest IE version is 11.

To use older trainers for older games you have to go down to Windows XP and IE 8 or 9.

Can go to Vista too but it's buggier than XP

I can use older trainers for older games on win 7 perfectly fine with IE9 I have never changed from this since I got win 7 and every trainer I use from old to new work fine

Can you try offline authentication? You can reinstall Norton at this point. Thank you for trying.

If offline mode does not work, try these commands at the command prompt as a last ditch effort before doing a reinstall of Windows:

    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Offline worked thank you so much. Uhm but is there any reason why they wouldn't be able to authenticate. I mean your main suspect was norton but it continued to happen after I uninstalled. Do you have any ideas what could be causing it. But the offline authentification worked thank you so much.

It tells me that something is blocking the trainer from connecting. This may be locally, this may be an ISP issue. As to which one it is, I wouldn't know. You would have to investigate what it is.

It has to be something with the latest windows update. As the trainers I use last night aren't working tonight(keep being told that there is no internet connection on my laptop, which is not true as I type this from the same laptop). So something in the latest 8.1 patch is keeping the trainer from connecting to the web. And I don't have any external anti-virus installed, just the windows defender.

If the Security update is part of the problem, there must be something else you and Spartan have in common. Otherwise, there would be pages of people with the same problem since those security updates went out, not just two of you.

Did you try disabling Windows Defender? I know Neo tested it but, just for drill, do you also have Total Rome 2 installed?
