Kmart is also doing it, only because they're owned by Target. Other stores will probably keep the game since this will cause people to go out and buy in spite of what Target has done.
Well I sense the Domino effect will come into play.
Well Target has started it with taking them off the shelfs as its supposidly against Feminists blah blah blah..... Well if one store has done it there I can see the rest doing it..... Even though the game has been out for ages now.
Here is the petition to have Grand Theft Auto 5 pulled from Target - Link
Here is a letter sent out by Target talking about them taking the game off shelves - Link (Note I have downloaded this pdf incase it vanishes).

Feminists =/= feminazi. People who made this petition and forced GTA V off the shelves of some stores in Australia are the same type of people who raged about that NASA guy's shirt a few weeks back. AKA people who, in the name of feminism, want equality between genders but in their own way.
Funny enough, people have launched a counter-petition to ban the Holy Bible in Australia for exactly the same reasons.

They may be pulling it as well, but Target does not have any stake of ownership in K Mart. When K Mart buckled a few years back (or ten) their remnants were collected by Sears.
Regardless, it's their store. If there hurtin' a$$ business really wants to see if they can rise from the ashes again by alienating customers... it's there prerogative.
In regards to the things the game drives us to do, am I the only one that got the super duper deluxe hard to find ultra rate limited edition version complete with an AK, a platoon's supply of .223 shells, and a list of fence connections in my area????
I've been burrowing my way to damnation ever since I played my first game. If I managed to take out any person or inanimate object that one or more of you may have known and cared about; I am sorry... but the game made me do it... and so did Judas Priest, and Jodie Foster.
