    @DABhand

    Hi Ch Peeps, I've recently started having an issue with my windows 8. When I turn the computer on it will bsod and the screen will flash and the computer will reboot. Then the computer will boot up fine. On one occurrence this has caused locking of my hard drive, which i've had to unlock using the cmd prompt.

    I've reinstalled windows and i'm still having this issue. Any ideas on what I can do try and figure out whats happening?

    Can be a lot of things starting from bad overclock, bad ram stick, bad sector, driver conflict etc..
    To eliminate the possibility of hardware issue first disable all oc's if you have any, then do extensive memtest using memtest86 to chk for erros in ram(could take all night), then chk system hdd for bad sectors.
    It also can be an overheating issue but since it happens on startup I highly doubt it.

    Could be an issue with the hardware. I say stip everything back to bare esentials then start from there. Remember learn youe BIOS/mobo beep sounds. They can be extremly helpfull.

    Turn off the auto restart on BSOD, so you can see the message.

    But if your HDD is locking up it could be a power failure on the HDD.

    Just turn that auto restart off and find out.

    Hi guys,

    Not sure as to why/how the problem has resolved. I ran a memtest etc and no issues came up. Reinstalled windows again via the boot cmd and it seems to be running/rebooting fine. Only issue now is that I cant get 8.1 updates to install, I'm not having much luck with this os guys. Anyone encountered this issue?

    Did you reset your bios removing CMOS battery at any point?
    When you reset the bios the date resets as well and windows wont allow you to update untill you get the date right.
    What is the error message you get when trying to install updates?
