Hey guys, ive been racking my brain all day today and for the past month trying to remember the name of this old space simulation game. if i remember right(which may be wrong lol) i used to play it on an XP machine. You would start the game by choosing a race (i specifically remember there being a race of robots, humans, and i believe greys....but i know there was like 2-4 more maybe?), and after choosing the race you would start at your home planet. you can attack other ships and upgrade yours. i cannot remember if you can build other ships, tho i think you could. you would forge alliances and battle for resources. some very specific things to help narrow the search for you guys.
-i remember one race could travel through wormholes, which were represented by a red ring of lights.
-it was a 2d game, and the graphics were old, bit it was able to scroll in all four directions, and i bilieve the game tried to give the illusion of depth (tried to make it look semi 3d).

after rereading this post im making i start to lose hope of finding it seeing as my memories dont provide much, but the great community here at CH has always pulled through for me in my times of need haha. Even if you think it isnt the game you are thinking of, just post the name anyways, it might help jog my memory of other details. Thank you ahead of time guys, it would be really cool to at least see this game again. Ill reply if i remember the name or if we are able to find it.

Also im pretty sure you never ever saw the surface of the planets at all, it was all a "space" view.

Ive google searched everything i can think of at this point and have gone through about 100 different title names, but my problem is i dont remember the name at all....i know it makes it really difficult when you dont remember even part of the name haha. im still looking around tho and thank you for the suggestion!

Are you perhaps talking about Solar Winds?

Wow, solar winds looks kinda close, but from what i remember it didnt have a UI like that at all, but it seems to be really similar. ill have to look a bit more closely at this one. Thanks for the suggestions of it

After looking up some gameplay videos of it, im about 90% positive that it isnt solar winds. i do remember communicating with other aliens sort of like that, but the game im looking for i believe might be either about the same age or a bit older. Thanks so much for the effort though!

Also the gameplay wasnt necessarily top-down like that, but more of at an angle if i remember correctly. the only reason i remember that detail was simply the fact that it was sortof strange to me as i played it haha

Sounds like Master of Orion or some other 4X game.

Master of Orion has sequels also.

Or it could be Space Empires 1-4.

There was StarKnights also which had wormholes and crap :P

You have me thinking of Space Rangers and Star Control.. Even if they're not what you're thinking of, they're both great fun and similar in premise to what you've described. Star Control 2 is probably the best of the bunch but I don't think it's what you're talking about because you have to be human (in the story mode at least). Also, Space Rangers has some ground combat and text-based missions thrown in, which I feel like you would have mentioned, so it's not likely that one either.

Sorry for not getting back sooner, was moving to a new place, and work has been hell. Yeah ive looked through both all of the games you two mentioned, and still to no avail. i will say that through this post i have found alott of new games to look into and i thank you guys soo much for that!
