You should get a lot of opinions on this. The thing is, you're pretty low spec on almost all the components, so IMO the money would be better spent on the console.

That's a PCI-E 2.0 system? You could do a somewhat bandaid upgrade and get a mid-spec GPU like an EVGA GeForce GTX 760 Suplerclocked Video Card for like $265 bux but it would need a beefier PSU than 400 watts. That's what I did with my 2.0 system but I got a high-spec GPU and my cpu is a X9770 Core 2 Quad Extreme and PSU is 1200 watts. Worked great but cost like $900 bux for the card I got, an AMD HD 7970.

I just think your $400 will go further on a new console. YMMV.

For GPU you need a 660 or a 7870 at least if you plan on gaming at a budget.

500W or higher PSU will be needed. 480W is borderline.

CPU will do ok, its not the best but will be fine... you could probably find a cheap 3.0ghz or more quad core for your board these days. But LGA 775's are very hard to find these day so hence why I said you probably could find a cheap one.

If not, it would mean a new motherboard and CPU of course.

Look at an i5 4400 and a medium priced motherboard, then try and save up a bit more to get a GPU and power supply. In the mean time use your 550ti until you do.

had the same line of thought 4 weeks ago. PS4 or new GPU. Let's put it this way: 65€ for every single game VS the STEAM SUMMER SALE starting today.

sorry, that probably didn't help that much. My opinion, save the money for a new pc in a couple of months. I spent ~350€ for the GPU and will probably upgrade the rest in a few months which will cost another 600€.

So true about all the opportunities to pick up games on sale for the PC.

And, Eric27265, I am also a big fan of Just Cause 2, have a pile of hours in that game. Here's some other games that have that riotous fun factor to one degree or another like JC2. All of them go on and off sale, too, that's where I got each one. Just Wishlist them till they hit another Sale:

Rage, Singularity, Section 8:Prejudice, Prototype 2 and BulletStorm. Played any of those? I've played Bulletstorm more times than I can count. Crazy as it is, I play that one to take a break from other games.

They all have some little issues, but that doesn't kill the fun factor (same as JC2). I can't speak to them all still having working Trainers, tho, might wanna check into that.

The selection of fun PC games on sale played with these great CH trainers is something I really cherish.

    $.02
