I'm having all kinds of problems with trainers on here lately and I keep being told it's the anti-virus.

So which anti-virus do you recommend? I use AVG free but will pay for another anti-virus if you (the mods) are confident one in particular is reasonably priced and will do a job.

I use Norton on a new Windows 8.1 PC. Both the Norton and this version of Windows get ****y when they see a trainer and will block or quarantine it right away. What I have to do is go into Norton's controls and tell it to un-quarantine the file. You can get around the Windows precautions if they are *****ing by just running as administrator. It's a few extra steps but worth it to have the PC protected all the time. I don't know what the mods' experience with Norton is but this AV works for me. I paid around $50 Cdn for it. (on sale)

I run Windows 8.1 and use the built-in Windows Defender (same as MSE). I have heard that many would attest that it's been declining in quality although I don't do anything to attract malware so it's good enough.

See this on computer security if you want to learn more (EMET will hinder trainers so take caution if you do use it). An anti-virus is actually an incredibly small defense mechanism compared to what you should be doing to secure your PC

Generally I use Microsoft Security Essentials which is free, extremely light on resources, doesn't have any annoyances at all and is completely silent in its operation, also has a very clean and pleasing UI.

Edit: Ha I just realised it's been ages since I last posted too, guess I'm a supreme lurker, lol.

As long as you add the trainers you use into any firewall and anti-virus solution that you make use of it really shouldn't make much of a difference honestly. I've used AVG and the Windows Firewall for years and I haven't had any problems that I couldn't solve myself--thankfully.

Oh, and Steelman, I think I had you beat lol--I can't remember the last time I posted before this one
