Yes, after a while the research trainer doesn't work like it should. Farther into the game, it SAYS it activates and the bar moves a little bit and the thing says 1 turn and so you turn it off. But it doesn't succeed the next turn. Once you go to the next turn, you can activate it again for another chunk of the bar filled up. You have to do this 4 or 5 times for each research item. I even went back and did some of the items that are available to reearch in the beginning that I skipped over and it is happening with them too and not just items that take a lot of research.
I have a saved game if the author would like it. I tried again today after turning my computer on and it's still happening.
try to get a little advanced into game and you will have like 100/150/200 + turns for a research (try do this - select research , activate then open research + escape countless times until 1 turn , after that deactivate + turn , again next turn ....)

The good news is that I've fixed it so it works (at least on my end) on your savegames but you need to have the option activated while ending a turn otherwise the current research is stucked at -XXXXX days left. The way of how researches are handled does not allow a perfect mechanism which sets the current research level close to the research level needed to be completed.
The bad news is, when the research still makes problems I'll remove it.
