if I add an amount in player editor how and when does it take effect please

you have to edit the effects in game (i alt tab to do it) then hit the tick/save option. it will then be instant for that specific item in game. a quick menu change will confirm it.

Thanks for that, tried as you said still doesn't work for me.
I put an amount in say more gold (5000) if I now bring down the small menu and click on apply change then whatever I've put in disappears there is a tick already there so if ileave it and go back to the game nothing has changed I am obviously doing something wrong. Sorry to be a pain but can you take me through it again please

Go ingame and press ESC to open the menu, your amount of gold should be shown somewhere at the top. Tab out and see if the editor displays the amount of gold, if it does everything is fine.
Just select the value and edit it, press on the mark on the right of it (maybe just ignore the small menu this time).
Go back ingame and reopen the menu by pressing ESC twice. Your gold should have been changed.
