If you get a crash after the new update from trying to reopen the game from an alt-tab. Then just verify files again and once that is done put the game in borderless windowed full screen mode and you should be good to go.
P.S. If you get the border for some reason just use alt-enter to full screen it. (Works on most windows games and apps.)
