So, I get the trade run mission, go to the array, double click it, and chose to buy 100 energy cells, the trade menu opens up, and a trade listing show up, i click 100 energy cells and freighter gets a job, then I happen to buy some missiles and my freighter maxes out with 3 of 3 jobs queued. The game then it tells me to fly to my freighter, and of course I fly to my freighter, but when I get to my freighter, the game just tells me to go buy 100 energy cells, in an infinite loop and my freight doesn't do anything and I don't see where to get 100 energy cells. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having trouble on the same mission...
save often and reload is all I can suggest.

The people on the game's troubleshoot forum say "DO NOT do the extra mission. Sit there, let the freighter do it's thing, then go to the next location"

There is also a link for a save-file that is set right after someone finished the mission. But I am not sure if I am allowed to post it here.

just google "Stuck on starter mission - Selling energy cells" and go to page 2 in the thread to find that link post.

The latest steam patch might have fixed it. No confirmations yet.

I had to restart from a save from an earlier point in time. Also if anyone has a crash on run error or when they try to bypass the intro videos by hitting ESC, you need to remove the .xml files in your x:\Users\"UserName\Documents\Egosoft\X Rebirth\SaveID. The files are config.xml, inputmap.xml, progressbar.xml, and uidata.xml. Don't delete any other xmls, especially the ones in your save folder. You will need to set the graphics/audio/controls/etc again afterwards but you shouldn't be crashing anymore.

Ok I figured it out.

make sure your freighter is in your squad and take the by order. then you just wait. I myself docked on my freighter and waited there on it looking out into space.

It seems like the freighter isn't doing anything or that it is bugged but in actuality only one freighter can dock at a time (even though there are multiple docking ports for freighters), as such the freighter is in a queue. just go ahead and get some coffee, beer, read the news paper or whatever.

just keep your sound on and an eye on the screen so you can see when when the objective updates.

same deal with dropping the cells off.

Yah, it takes the freighter forever to do anything, it took me 30 minutes of waiting before it finally got to the array II building and then another 30 minutes before it actually docked with it and bought the 100 energy cells.

You have to make sure you select the proper station from the drop down list under energy credits.

Also save save save! No autosave makes me want to blow my brains out
