any game that requires over 40 patches to make it playable over 2 years after release has something terribly wrong with it.

Thank you, no sooner said than done !!

game has been updated on october 1 with patch 1.008

New one for me - the trainer doesn't launch at all. Disabled antivirus (bitdefender), tried various methods of compatibility, launched before game, while game is live, etc. No dice. Click, it opens a tab on the taskbar but no window, has a process briefly running, and then closes.

Check the event viewer of windows for a crash entry about the trainer. If there isn't one its mostly likely your AV still blocks the trainer from running.
