Absolutley love the remakes to classic and retro games, the last remakes were brilliant like "Rise Of The Triad" and "Shadow Warrior".
Of course there were some epic fails like Duke3d and Death Rally...

I'm probably an old stick in the mud, but remakes seldom capture what made the originals good. It would be best to take the creativity with which classics are reimagined and just make a new game.

I have to say no. Remakes do not feel the same.

I agree, sometimes they feel much better..

If they only changed the graphics, sure.

In "shadow Warrior" for example I think it's obviously better graphics but also better gameplay and storyline.
On the other hand you got "Duke Nukem" which has also much better graphics but they ruined the gameplay completely...

I don't get this fascination with graphics.

They're games, not pictures.

If it's a good game, it doesn't matter if it's monochrome wire-frames.

Funny thing but you know what? All of the classic good old games became a legend because they presented revolutionary graphics and detail level with great gamplay on the side dish.
I agree graphics is not everything not even close, for me not only gameplay and storyline are important but also the sound and game atmosphere, but like it or not graphics are the basis of a good game.
