Total War: Rome 2
You need to manage your buildings very carefuly and spread the squalor-generating buildings throughout your provinces. i.e. build 2 military encampments in Rome...in the other 2 cities in the province, build TEMPLES (yes, it's a religious experience now...)...also, develop your philosophy tech tree and use your agents (best ones are the heroes or champions) to perform activities in the regions that promote order (heroes will tell tales of battles, blablabla).~
Basically, until you need at least 3 complete provinces to have a fully functioning "war machine"...1 for troops, 1 for navy and armor/weapon upgrades and 1 for siege equipment and cavalry...at least, thats how im working around it for now.
OBVIOUSLY, if our CH gurus could include something to "freeze" squalor, now that would be heavenly!! (hint!).
P.S. they've announced a patch for friday...doubt it will fix anything related to playability...but worth waiting to see.
Hey WDRatt, maybe you can answer some questions for me.
First, it sounds like your saying the upgrades from stuff like a workshop apply to ALL your territories, not just the ones your built in. Is that what your saying, or do you mean to move your troops from other provinces into that province and then upgrade them individually?
Second, you say to build temples in the other two cities. Does the +public order from temples in one city, say, Sparta, apply to ALL the cities in that province? So if I were to turn Sparta into a military city, and then make Athens into the holy land, Sparta would get the all the public order boosts too?
Cheers for your help, these kinds of systems are not very clearly explained in the game so I appreciate the help.
1. Do not build every single upgrade in every single city you own. Focus on your necessities like food production and only have a select few cities with the high level troop production and other heavy squaldor structures.
2. If you have a region that it is a serious problem for garrison armies in the providence to help combat it.
3. Check to see exactly what is generating the squaldor. The turn after you conquer a new city there will be a heavy penalty. Furthermore there can be cultural penalties that can be fixed through temples and other structures that spread your factions culture. Additionally there is a provincal squaldor that will decrease at a rate of one per turn.
Basically its about micro managing several factors. However if you do it right you wont even have to have troops garrisoned to have 100% happiness in all your Providences.
On an additional note the game difficulty will effect this as well.
Tooltips and the settlement information screens are your best friends. You can't just ram a city full of the very best in tech and industry without tending to the needs of your people.
It varies by faction, but there will always be at least one kind of building that has a lot of happiness bonus, which can be a good way to even it out. Don't just go off "Hey, X building sounds like it would be awesome for people", look at its information and the benefits it carries before investing money and a building slot.
I've found it's a good idea to specialise provinces for different things, so I usually make my starter province my melee infantry province with the buildings that benefit only that, combined with some happiness structures. Then I'll set up a province for major food production etc. Remember that bonuses from buildings (And penalties) seem to be shared across the province, not just in that particular settlement.
All it takes is a little planning and reading, and the squalor ratings are perfectly manageable.
buildings inside a province, applies to ALL the cities in it, so if you build a +order temple in Rome for example, it also applies to the 3 other towns, goes for all buildings, same with +order from army, you only need 1 army, to get order bonus in the whole province
something the game fails to explain on its own......im a TW vet, all the way from the first shogun, and this eludet me, till i saw it on the forum, i can only imagine how much harder it is for a TW newbie
also, from my current playtime, im at the conclusion that agents, except for champion giving army xp, are completly useless
