you probably could test it when you gain access to the Safe House. The doctor in there sells cyberwares and offer to install it for you. Each installation shows how many essence required.

As for saves, I went to the savegame folder but it was empty so I think the game saves files on Steam cloud.

option added... someone test to see if it gives you legit more essence.

Essence is directly linked to "magic". The more cyberware you add, the lower your essence gets and the lower your magic also gets.

It seems to be a calculated value that is recalculated at every autosave point (i.e. mission start).

It's basically 6.0 minus the cumulated float value of all cyberwares together.

Freezing essence alone does only let you equip more cyberwear then normal possible, but it cripples your magic completely (you cannot buff yourself anymore and can't cast most spells including totems). That might be due to it crippling the magic stat.

I'll go and test the essence in the new version, but we'd need something to freeze the magic stat too, to at least 6 - the magic stat also governs the casting delay for spells. At 6 you have a +6 casting delay to recast any spell. I don't know what it would do at higher values.
So 6 is probably the best to set it frozen to.

Can't edit my post for some reason.
There is a typo:
At 6 you have a +6 casting delay to recast any spell.

Should be:
At 0 "magic" you have a +6 casting delay to recast any spell.


Next edit try:
The Essence option works perfectly. I can now even upgrade more powerful cyberwear over the basic one.
Totally awesome!

Still can't use magic of course, but maybe you can find that too?

Edit 2:
Tested some more. The new trainer option also stops working when entering a new mission. But it doesn't crash the game (in my case) and deactivating and activating the option again works.

Curious my first Playthrough, I was unable to use or cast a heal spell was this maybe due to the cyberware I had installed? or am I missing something that is needed to cast the healing magic? I am getting ready to start a new playthrough I will test the essence option on the updated trainer today.
