On July 9, 2013, Steam applied a platform update which added what appeared to be some type of anti-cheat/debugger protection to the Steam overlay which affects all games in their library. This caused trainers to crash when pressing F1 to activate. Not all trainers and games were affected, based on how they attach to the game. A tool was quickly created that solved the crashing issue for those games that needed it.

Many users took to the Steam forums to complain and Valve quickly responded with "It looks like the recent client update for Steam has caused an unforeseen issue with certain mods and trainers. This is not intentional behavior. We’re investigating the bug and will be preparing a fix.".

Later, another Steam client update was pushed out which reverted the code back to normal again and caused trainers to start functioning without the newly created tool.

We appreciate our members that stood up to Valve and quickly got them to "fix" the issue. Strangely enough, the entire thread which was several pages long, mysteriously disappeared from the Valve forums. We'll leave it up to you guys to determine if this was a simple programming mistake on Valve's part or an experiment to see if they could get away with blocking all third party mods and trainers from their entire game library.

So, if you haven't done so, please force Steam to do a client update and then you should be able to use your trainers normally again. We still have our tool should this issue come up again in the future. We take very seriously the work we do here and supporting our members is the highest priority for us. Hopefully that is now even more apparent with today's events.

We are no longer packaging the tool with the trainers, but for those that still need it, it can be downloaded here: Link

I was just about to ask why all of a sudden none of my trainers work. I've tried numerous. So far i've tried Borderlands 2, Deadpool, DeadIsland riptide, Metro games, on and on. So far every trainer I've tried crashes once F1 is pressed. Why can't Steam just relax? Damn
One other note and not sure if it matters. When I launched Borderlands 2 in reinstalled or patched Net frame 4.0 which took about 20 minutes. Don't know if that will help.

So far tried Alpha Protocol, Dragon Age Origins, Skyrim and Saints Row 3 - all affected although sometimes the dragon age trainer works but it's not consistent.

Can you confirm the crash of using the Borderlands 2 Trainer and that the Editor doesn't crash?

I have a Gods and Kings trainer for Civilization V; Gods and Kings. This morning I bought the new expansion, Brave New World, and the game crashed when I pressed F1 at the start menu. I realize this could be a possible conflict with versions, but I am posting this just in case it is not. That and to hopefully give whomever makes(or is making) the trainer(s) for the new Brave New World expansion may take it into account. I know nothing about trainers but I just wanted to try and do my part for a kick ass site.

Edit; Whoops, Civ 5 must have been mentioned while I was typing this post originally.
