Has the movie Man of Steel been to your expectations or exceeded them even? The reason I ask is because "some people" feel like they were robbed of the superman they "wanted" and they "remember".

I personally loved Man of Steel, I got what it was about and it was well...awesome. I also had my friend with me who knows(comically) more about superman than me and he enjoyed it. Why the complaints?

Since I work for Wal-Mart, I got to go to our premiere the night before it came out. Heck, I even had to wear a cape around at work. By the time the premiere got there, I was tired of getting asked if I was Dracula (who apparently wears a red cape), tired of being asked where Lois was, and tired of being asked how I shaved. All I could think was that this dang movie better be worth it.

I thought the movie was just ok. The story was almost too dark for my taste. When I think Superman, I think fun and entertaining. This took almost a Batman level turn for the dark. It's not that it was bad, it just wasn't what I expected to see or wanted to see.

Have you even seen Man Of Steel @ServiusTheBear?

Bes that must've been pretty annoying haha. Well I felt it showed the "Man Of Steel" underneath and that was point of it yknow. Now that they've got that done it'll get much better I think. Not every super hero movie character has to have some witty comical joke or whatever.

But that underneath you describe was never there in the "real" superman he was a symbol of american ideals and values at the time a shining light to guide people to better themselves and others the angst and darkness is added this days to relate to the self imposed misery that youngster's put on themselves today

From a superhero point of view he's the superhero of superheros, the most average looking guy(default almost).

I don't think that they're going in the American symbol direction anymore. The movie focused more on him although the feelings, thoughts and ordeals he went through are still and will always be a part of Superman that yes has been a part of everything superman since day one.

Forgive me but I get what you said I just want to add that If there ever was to be a superhero American symbol. Captain America has it written all over him literally and his story is much more relatable from a human perspective. If you get what I mean.

Superman was created as a counter to American social problems that existed during the time of his creation. The Great Depression is the most notable of these. Siegel and Shuster based him on the ultimate in American ideals and pitted him against villains that represented what was wrong with American society. For example, Bizarro represented the reversed logic of many politicians of that era.

An influence on early Superman stories is the context of the Great Depression. The left-leaning perspective of creators Shuster and Siegel is reflected in early storylines. Superman took on the role of social activist, fighting crooked businessmen and politicians and demolishing run-down tenements. This is seen by comics scholar Roger Sabin as a reflection of "the liberal idealism of Franklin Roosevelt's New Deal", with Shuster and Siegel initially portraying Superman as champion to a variety of social causes. In later Superman radio programs the character continued to take on such issues, tackling a version of the Ku Klux Klan in a 1946 broadcast. Siegel and Shuster's status as children of Jewish immigrants is also thought to have influenced their work. Timothy Aaron Pevey has argued that they crafted "an immigrant figure whose desire was to fit into American culture as an American", something which Pevey believes taps into an important aspect of the American identity.

This is why I didn't like Man of Steel. The original intended focus was a "knight-in-shining-armor" concept. I'm not in any way opposed to backstory development, but when you start messing with what a character is supposed to be at the core, I lose interest. I almost wish I hadn't seen the movie just so I could remain in a state of blissful ignorance to it. I'd rather just remember Superman as I knew and loved him.
