Whatever they do, Lucas needs to pull his head out of his ass and use the EU which he personally approved of when it was being written.
He's already destroyed about half of it with his alteration of what the clone wars were.
And in the process lost some of his best writers.

He approved it being written. He has also publicly stated that the EU books are entirely non-canon. He allowed the creation of the EU purely as a money-making scheme.
They shouldn't make any films at all.
1. If they make films using EU material, they won't do it justice/will ruin what already exists.
2. If they do not use EU material, they will further ruin what EU already exists.

IIRC, Lucas doesn't even think his first trilogy constitutes a "canon".
