It's just a water heater leaking gallons of water into the carpet. I'm sure it's not that big of a deal right?

Leaking on the carpet is preferable to it shooting through the house and breaking through the roof, and sailing a few dozen feet in the air and landing on your car.

Edit- but seriously, turn the water cutoff above it, attach a hose to the spigot at the bottom, put the hose by a floor drain or into the outflow for your washer or someplace where it goes right into a pipe. And let 'er rip. That'll reduce water damage.

The architect of the water heater thought it would be a great idea to have a pan around where the spigot is and restricts water flow greatly since it pinches the hose pretty well. Shouldn't be a problem since I turned the water off to it.

Not looking forward to some cold showers I'll have to take though.

That happened to me once. I turned the water off, dryed the pipes with a blow dryer and used epoxy glue to cover the fissure. That fixed the problem until a plumber came... 2 days later.

You don't want to make a claim on something so minor as replacing carpet.

They'll mark you as a risk and your premiums will rise for the next seven years.

Homeowners insurance is for when your house burns down or a tornado wipes you out, not for when repairs are less than a few thousand.

    Doubly so with renter's insurance.

Bollocks any claim that is more than your excess should be claimed as that what house and contents insurance is for and a wet carpet is less likely to thrfow up premiums than burning your house down as they tend to frown on that
