Not to worry, was going to suggest to him that his problem may still be a program he installed recently. But the way he acted there, meh no more help.

But I think our German friend may have installed IE10 recently.

Cabal's issue is related to IE10 or Windows 8. About Predcon, I'm not sure but there might be an easy way to test it: Start your computer in safe mode, run it from there or/and run the trainer in a new virtual machine. If it works over there then it must be a security software problem, perhaps any third party software changed the security settings? Before things are getting to complex, I would give it a try.

what do you mean a 'new virtual machine'? I don't think I can run the VM inside Safe Mode.

I have VM Virtual Box installed, but I can't run it without an XP installation disc. Which doesn't help me anyway since I'm running Win7.

How is running a trainer in a VM going to help me figure out what's causing the issue in Windows proper?

it wont it will only indicate that you have a security issue in windows if the trainer runs fine in vm, i recommend system restore to the last point you remember the trainers worked and watch the log to see what have changed in order to avoid this issue from recurring.

@Predcon: You can get a 30-days windows version directly from Microsoft, also Windows 7 which you can install in a virtual machine and run the trainer from there.

About the safe mode, put your trainer at the desktop:
    windows.microsoft.com/is-is/windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode
If it asks you if you want to run the safe mode or the safe mode with internet connection, choose the one with connection and run the trainer.

Both are ways to figure out if the problem is isolated to your system setup.

I just now tried posting a list of apps that had been installed since the time I know one the CH Trainers that is crashing now to have worked. For whatever reason, it won't post. Maybe a forum filter. The point being that System Restore doesn't go back far enough to be a help, and that maybe one of these apps would stand out as the problem. The trainers start in Safe Mode, so that should narrow it down. Is there a way to directly access my security settings and modify them so as to allow the trainers to connect properly? I seems like they're hanging on authentication, and that's what's crashing them.

In the Administrative Tools (in the Control Panel), the only thing that's been 'modified' recently are the 'Local Security Policy' and 'Print Management' tools. Is there anything in the former that I can change to fix things?
