Gas Huffer,The Jesus Lizard and L7 were also great grunge bands.
Sonic Youth was cool as well, although they are technically punk.
    Even though they are not.

also worth reference are "mad season" the band which was assembled from alice, pearl and the screaming trees with several guest performances by chris cornell, they released only one album but it was a masterpiece.

I'll be cliche and say Nirvana.
And it might sound funny, but I would buy a O-Z just to get you in my bedroom.
