I'm thinking about buying a gaming headset for multiplayer games. Honestly, I've never player multiplayer games but I think it may be easier with a gaming headset and mic.

What do you use? What brand, how long and how good is sound? I appreciate any ideas. I'll do further research, but nothing beats first hand info!

the wiring goes out on it within a couple months. a lot of people have had the same problem according to the comments.

I bought a $100 Turtle Beach headset which broke four months later. Excellent sound quality, but dreadful manufacturing quality. I'd just recommend purchasing a really good surround sound system and using a normal headset instead, but if you're hellbent on buying a gaming headset, go with Astro Gaming. They're damned expensive, but I've seen multiple reviews give Astro's selection much praise for both sound and manufacturing, and as far as I'm aware they've got excellent warranties if anything should go wrong.

I bought a $20 headset and one year later it's still going strong. I don't miss anything in the way of bass or anything like that, so unless you're fussy about the audio then just get something cheap.

EDIT - If you wear glasses make sure you get one which isn't going to crush your ears against the arms.

A couple of years ago I bought the analog version of the Fatal1ty headset by Creative.

It has good sound in both ear pieces (yeah, not as good as my $500 Sennheisers but the setup only costs thirty bucks) and microphone (which is removable to you can use them as just a decent set of headphones) and it's lasted this long.

A lot of reviews talk about a lack of durability but just don't abuse it and that won't be an issue.

I can't speak for the USB version.

I had a pair of fatal1ty's also until I accidently stood up and didn't notice the cord was a bit tangled with the chair and it yanked the cable out of the ear piece.

But I have gotten a pair of Sony's MDR-V300, each ear piece has its own cable which is even better, and the sound quality is good. No mic though, but easy enough to set up a table mic, or if you have a webcam it may have a mic already, you don't have to use the cam to use the mic. Plus they are decently priced.

Steelseries Siberia is great.
I myself use a Razer Charcarias. Has been going strong for like 2 years now. I find sound great and it's also very comfortable.

But my friend has a Siberia and I must say the sound is better of that one. Comfort I don't know. Havent weared it long enough

Up until recently I was a buyer for this category at Fry's Electronics. Also a big enthusiast for this particular topic.

If You're looking for High End best of the best ($199.99)Astro Gaming A30 (or A40 if you do console gaming as well) These headsets are awesome, the best I've ever tested and I've tested almost every headset out there. Excellent build quality, amazing sound and very comfortable

For a really good wireless option that doesn't break the bank Logitech G930 (119.99) Good sound quality, fairly comfortable but a bit plasticky.

For something a bit more midrange (99.99) Corsair Vengance 1500's. Really good headset, very comfortable, good audio range.

In the sub-$80 range look at the Creative Tactics 3d headsets depending on what you want to spend.
