Someone hear asked a while back if the Rockstar Social Club had to be installed to play the Rockstar game in subject.

I found the answer.. BAD NEWS FOLKS!!!

YES! According to the fine details of the Rockstar rules that have to do with their games and the Social Club program.. YOU DO HAVE TO HAVE IT INSTALLED!

In fact.. If you uninstall it or submit a request to cancel your Social Club membership you loose all access to all of the games you have installed under the Social Club program. And the details say that this is PERMANENT!!

Sounds like it's time for someone to come up with a series of game execute fixes for the games we legally own and have installed on our computers so we can play our games WITHOUT having to run Social Club in the background?? Talk about dictators! WOW

You don't have to use Social Club unless you plan on Multiplayer action.

Also cancelling your Social Club account does not kill off your games, your games will still work just no online stuff.
Oh and Don't forget some tuts on ASM and defeating DMA

I guess I do not see what the big deal is here. I have spent plenty of hours playing the game, and have not spent any time interacting in the Social Club. If it is simply a manner of frustration with DRM, then this is not the most invasive form by any means.
That is the smartest thing I have ever heard anyone say about anything.

That is what I thought at first until I clicked on an information link on Rockstar's Social Club website help pages. It sure seemed rediculas that they put it that way since they claimed you don't really have to register or participate to play the game but you HAVE To have it installed.

A perfect example is the fact that every time I try to launch and play Max Payne 3 SINGLEPLAYER it forces me to log into Social Club!!!! And that is a cold hard fact... It absolutely WILL NOT let me launch and play the singleplayer game without logging in to Social Club..

That is my experience. Not just my opinion on RS's Social Club.

If there really is a way to play Max Payne 3 without logging into Social Club. PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO DO IT!!!!

    Thanks!

No. It's not the most invasive of DRM out there but it is bloody annoying to have to log into programs you don't even use or participate in to play a game. The fact that they make installing it mandatory even if you won't be using it past activating your game, and then threaten to kill your game, or games, if you "unsubscribe" from it or uninstall it is what is really agrivating about it.

During my research I found out they changed some things for singleplayer a while back so you can play the singleplayer game mode without logging into the main club. But the Social Club program still runs in the background. Even if you did not log into it. The older information I had read still required you to log in even for singleplayer gaming. Now logging just allows Social Club to track of your gameplay progress, achievements, singleplayer and multiplayer stats, and any crew or friend affiliations so you can share them with other members if you want to. I have no interest in this personally but others do.

By the way.. This was not supposed to be a rant or rave. It was just supposed to answer the question someone had about having to install and keep RS's Social Club program to play their games. Nothing more. Nothing less.

    Thanks for the feedback though.

DABhand.. This is direct from Rockstar's Social Club support pages. These rules appear to apply to all games activated through Social Club. Please note content of Item 4.

Question: I want Rockstar to delete my account. How do I do these things?

Answer: Now that Social Club is its own platform, important online data and activation information is permanently stored with the Social Club account used to register the game. Per our privacy policy (www.rockstargames.com/privacy/), we are required to delete your account along with your information if you click Submit a Request at the top of this page. If you choose to do this, please include the following information:
    1. Social Club email address
    2. Social Club nickname
    3. Date of birth on the Social Club account so we can verify your identity
    4. Confirmation that you understand that deleting the account results in irreversible loss of activation entitlement for Rockstar Games PC titles, along with any purchased DLC. (It then continues with game specific details)

Typically without activation you cannot play any game that requires activation. In any mode. And irreversible usually means permanent. That would mean permanent loss of activation of your games.

So. Yes. You MUST have Social Club installed on your computer, and running in the back ground, to play the games you have installed and activated through it.
