I got my computer at the end of June and it worked really well. It is a gaming rig. Ever since the beginning of October my computer has been having a weird problem. Whenever I play a game my computer will randomly restart. It could be 10 minutes in or an hour in but it always happens.
It only happens when I play games. It never happens when I watch a film, anime, or surfing the web.
I have automatic restarts turned off to see if it would provide a bluescreen but it never does. Basically my computer just restarts whenever I play games.
I check my RAM, my video card, my hard drives, temperatures, and I even reinstalled my operating system. They all have checked out fine. The only things I haven't checked are my processor and power supply.
I am worried that it could be a software issue too. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
does it do a normal restart where it logs off windows and says Shutting Down and then reboots or does the computer just make a *pchew* sound and just shut off?
if it is the latter, you probably need a bigger power supply to support your rig.
and to check your power supply you will need to open up your rig and look at the white sticker on the power supply box to see the wattage

None really. The screen just goes black like the game has crashed but about 7-8 seconds later it just restarts. There is no sound when it happens because it doesn't seem to fully turn off.
hmm a 1200w PSU should be enough to support the average gaming rig..but if you have top-of-the-line brand new hardware and an ungodly amount of RAM you may need a more powerful power supply
but...
this could also be a display issue. i suggest finding out what graphics card you have and check on the manufacturer's website to see if there are updated drivers for you unit

I have XFX AMD HD 7970. I have 16 gigs of RAM and my processor is the FX-8150. I am wondering if my PSU could be malfunctioning.
I played Hitman: Absolution for four hours last night with no problems but when I used the trainer today it restarted withing 15 minutes of playing.
I am going to try it again without the trainer. I am just wondering if the trainer is an extra process that could be slightly overheating the PSU.
Ever since I got my PC I have been using CH trainers. I had an older gaming rig before this one. (been an Unlimited member for about a year now) and I know the trainers are not the problem.
